Mexican Immigrants in America

Before the Mexican-American War a lot of people don't know that the stretch of land we know today as California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas used to be owned by Mexico. Mexican Westerners, fabricated as part of the American Western culture as far back as the 1840s. There is some biasness to what Ann Coulter had said about Mexicans on Fox News when she had said Mexicans have never been apart of American heritage, come on...really? I would like to discredit that real quick and say this; that our struggle as Mexican-Americans or Chicanos, in America; has always been prevalent in American history textbooks. I don't know where she got her information from, but Mexican immigrants have been making their voices heard in this country as early as the 1950s. The Zoot Suit Riots in particular is one event in American history I would like to pinpoint. Young Chicano Americans would dress up in white tailored suits to show empowerment, but police and military persons at the time would see this as offensive so they responded with violence and physical beatings. Thereafter, the Mexican American protesters made a stand and continued to wear these suits even when they were targeted. The mixing of minorities into American life has only enriched our culture. We have adopted some Spanish vocabulary and latin roots as well as customs that are now everyday lifestyle traditions; for example: some Mexican food like nachos that you'll find at every American movie theatre, Mexican words or vocabulary, Mexican traditions like pinatas at birthday parties or social outtings, popular musicians like Carlos Santana and Camilla Cabello, including civil rights activists like Cesar Chavez who fought for Mexican American farmers' rights. I remember getting into this touchy subject with a person on YouTube with the opposing mindset of immigrants and even had a back and forth with him; he was sarcastic saying,"You support illegal immigrants? Are you going to pay for their living expenses, their groceries, their clothes, a place to live?" I just responded as, These are human beings no different from you and me, they have jobs and families to feed just like yours and mine...these people are NOT dogs, and if they make it into this country; which was FOUNDED on immigrants, we should welcome them in from a hostile country since they are seeking a better life, trying to escape the wrath of poverty, violence, and turmoil; even if they make it in illegally. We should welcome them with ambulances and warm welcomes, not with hate, not with cynicism, and not with walls and definitely not with a moat of alligators and snakes like Trump had said lol.
