Two American Presidents Who Were Overrated

In 1796, in George Washington's famous Farewell Address, he reminds Americans not to get involved in foreign affairs. As time went on America became involved in the UN Committee, countries started making weapons of mass destruction, and we needed a way to have a clear line of communication with other countries and so on and so forth...we have come a long way since then, times have changed and a lot of the time we don't really follow that sound word of advice in history as much. Now the first person I wanted to talk about, Teddy Roosevelt; is known through out American history as a successful military leader who valued American ideals and overcame strife at an early age. We often remember him for that saying, "Speak softly, but carry a big stick." Roosevelt though was one of the first Americans to abuse yellow journalism. In 1898 ideologically, I believe it was only in his own self-interest to bring about war. He used the newspaper to spread lies and convince the American public to want to start a war with Spain. Honestly we had no business in their affairs and not only did Roosevelt get his way, but he lied to the American people about the American Vessel that sank prior to the war; ranting on February 15, 1898, that it was Spain who sunk the ship killing 250 American passengers onboard- when in reality we don't really know who was 100% behind it. Teddy Roosevelt gets so much praise for his ideals especially from Right Wing Conservatives, but I think Americans should hear this side of the story and remember that he didn't do what was best for the American people, but he did what was going to make him look as if he did something righteous by attacking a crippled Spanish empire in the Caribbean. Many people overlook this incident and see it as a great thing, but if you read between the lines you will find that this actually changes Roosevelt's image because he fed lies to the American public through the media, and he used millions of dollars from the federal reserve for a cause/war we shouldn't have even been a part of.

Then, there was also Ronald Reagan I wanted to talk about. Father and founder of the Trickle-Down Theory or better known as "Reaganomics." He gets so much positive credit for his term in office but come on really...? Not only was he not fit for becoming President; and prior to this he was an actor who talked to a monkey with no political experience, but he helped enforce the longevity of HMOs which denied sick people from getting health coverage and he also strengthened the core of supply-side economics, or Capitalism...increasing the wage gap by just over 15% and putting a lot of middle-class Americans in poverty. That's not really a great thing to be remembered for but it makes sense that only stingy, wealth-minded people look to him as a positive role model or even as a Godfather in U.S. politics and economics.
